Stray Dog Collection Services

stray-dog Hammerpond

Our Services

Horsham and Mid Sussex District Councils have approved Hammerpond Kennels as the kennel of choice for all stray or unwanted/abandoned dogs in Horsham and surrounding areas. Hammerpond Kennels acts on behalf of both Councils in accordance with procedures as set out by them. We collect stray dogs only when requested by the relevant Council. If you have a stray dog requiring collection you must call the appropriate Council first who will contact us if they require us to collect the animal. If we hold your dog, you will be required to provide proof of identity and ownership of the animal and pay the relevant Council’s charges before the dog can be released. Any Dogs where no arrangement has been made for collection within 7 days will be re-homed as directed by Horsham and Mid Sussex District Councils. We work with a number of animal rescues to rehome all uncollected animals.

Protection of ALL boarders

An extremely important part of animal welfare is health and hygiene which is one of our cornerstone values. To ensure that all our boarders are safe from any potential cross infection and in particular, between vaccinated and non-vaccinated animals, we physically house both groups in separate kennel blocks and exercise in different paddocks. This ensures the two groups will not at any time come into contact with each other.

Whether you are a boarding client or owner of a stray you can have the peace of mind that strict health and safety along with quarantine control is maintained at all times so as to keep all the dogs safe. Both boarders and stray dogs have the same quality of accommodation and level of service given to them. The only difference is their physical location and self-contained status to provide the highest standards of hygiene for all.

Have we collected your dog?

If you have lost your dog and wish to check whether we have it here, by all means please call us. However, Horsham or Mid Sussex District Council will have authorised a recovery of the dog and depending on the hours of collection the dog may be taken temporarily to a location other than us. We therefore recommend that you contact Horsham District Council first on 01403 215407 or Mid Sussex District Council on 01444 477423 (out of hours 0845 602 1035), where they should be able to advise you as to whether they have recovered your dog and if so, where it currently is located.

How do I get my dog back?

In order to collect your dog you will need to provide identification proving your name and address and also proving ownership of the dog. Once we have established you are the rightful owner and all Council fees are paid, you will be required to sign a release form for the relevant Council. Proof of ID and ownership are essential to ensure your pet is returned to you and no one else.

Collection hours

Assuming we have your dog, collection is possible strictly between the following hours ONLY;

Mornings: 08:00-11:30 – Afternoons: 15:00-17:30

Please be aware the Kennels are closed daily between 12.00pm and 3pm. Please Note: Any Dogs where no arrangement has been made for collection within 7 days will be Re-homed, as directed by Horsham and Mid Sussex District Councils.
